EVENTS: General Meetings, Workshops & Felting Frenzies
Happy New Year!  A little belatedly, but better late than never.

Our first meeting in 2012 will be on February 18.  It will be our 100th meeting as a group, something to shout about, which we will.  The theme of the meeting is "Diamond and Pearl Celebration."  Please wear plenty of bling and bring some lunch to share.

Our special guest for the day is the wonderful and very aptly-named Sue Pearl. Sue is a feltmaker of international renown, an author, and workshop convenor of note.  She is also a member of the VFI, but one we see only when she visits from the UK. Sue will be showing us film of her work, as well as demonstrating how to make one of her "Frillies" - scarves with special frilly magic.

The agenda and more information can be downloaded: News Sheet #11.

General Meeting dates for 2012 (Saturdays):

  • February 18
  • April 21
  • June 16
  • August 18 (Annual General Meeting)
  • October 20
  • December 1

We meet at Hartwell Church of Christ Hall, 248 Highfield Road, Hartwell (corner of Highfield Road and Milberton Street). The venue is one block from Toorak Road trams and two blocks from Burwood Station on the Alamein line. There is ample, unrestricted parking in Highfield Road. There are restrictions in Milverton Street, so read the signs and be careful.

Non-members are welcome to come along and sample a meeting! Bring your own lunch. If it is your first visit, please aim to arrive before 11 a.m. and please let the people on the desk know that it is your first meeting. You will be given a welcoming gift and a buddy for the day, to show you the ropes. Meetings generally conclude by 3.15 p.m. Everyone is asked to help pack up at the conclusion of the meeting. Guest are welcome.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops on Feltmaking are held frequently. There will usually be a workshop a month, if not more. Information on workshops for 2012 is contained in the 2012 Workshop Program. You will need to complete and post/email a Workshop Application form to register for a workshop. Both of these forms can be downloaded using the following links:

  • 2012 Workshop Program as a PDF file
(This is now the final program.  It includes information on which workshops are full and which still have places available.  You are always welcome to put your name on the Waiting List for full workshops.)

  • Workshop application form as a PDF file You will need a copy of the Adobe Acrobat reader to open and read these files. Download for free by clicking here

  • Workshop application form as a DOC file You can edit this file to add your details, save it and send as an email attachment when booking

FELTING FRENZIES (monthly)

A Felting Frenzy is a particular type of feltmaking experience, in which members (and you do have to be a member to participate) share the joys and trials of feltmaking in an informal and non-instructional setting. Beginners are welcome and can learn a great deal from observation.

The very successful pattern of alternate monthly Friday and Saturday Frenzies will be retained in 2012.  Dates are:

  • Friday February 17 (@Opendrawer, Toorak Road, Hartwell not the church)
  • Saturday March 17
  • Friday April 21
  • Saturday May 19
  • Friday June 16
  • Saturday July 21
  • Friday August 17
  • Saturday September 15
  • Friday October 20
  • Saturday November 17
  • No Frenzy in December

Participation is limited to 12, so a booking (and payment of $10 fee, in advance) is necessary. Hours are from 9.30 am until 3.00 pm. The Fibre Shop will be open for an hour or two at the start of the Frenzy. Fibre Shop Sales are done by volunteers from within the Frenzy participants. They willingly give up their time to assist others, so please respect their right to some quality feltmaking time in return.

Email our Felting Frenzy Coordinator, Margot Ling, for availability, bookings, or more information.
