    2017 VFI are supporting Kinglake Community by donating a large Felted Dog (made by our members) to be raffled or auctioned by The Rotary Club at the Kinglake Rangers Art Show in order to help raise funds for their community.
    They are inviting VFI members to exhibit TEXTILE works of art , there is no particular theme and there is Prize money for first and second places
    The enrty form must be received by Friday 10th November and items received by 23rd November. 
    All items must be for sale there is a 20% commission on sales.

  • Painting With Wool with Olga Finkel

    Location: Hartwell Church of Christ hall. 246 Highfield Road, Hartwell

    In this workshop students will be introduced to methods of “painting with wool” using prefelt as canvas, felt needle as a brush and wool fibre as paint. They will make a portrait of a girl in fancy headwear using a paper pattern, concentrating on precise lines  while also having the freedom to express their creativity.

  • Beginners Felting with Phyllis Hoffman

    Saturday, 7th April 2018 at 9am - 4:30pm, Sunday, 8th April 2018 at 9am - 4:30pm
    Location: Hartwell Church of Christ hall. 246 Highfield Road, Hartwell

    This workshop is designed for beginners covering the basics of felting and nuno felting.

    Day 1 you will be shown how to design and felt a beautiful felt scarf using fine Merino wool tops, silk roving and other textures.

    Day 2 you will learn what nuno is, why and how it works. How to test to see which fabric can be used for nuno felting and how to design using a variety of methods to lay out the wool on the silk/fabric. You will be given the choice of making samples, a sampler with a variety of techniques or design your own scarf/wrap using the nuno technique.

    Phyllis Hoffman
    Born in South Africa I have been living in Australia since 1993.
    Textiles and design have always filled my life having learned most through books and "University of Disaster". In 2004 I stumbled on Felting and took it with great passion.
    Now I create one of a kind "Mixed Media/Textile Art" to wear and for the home.
    I teach at various Community Centres in Australia and Overseas.
    My inspirations come from colour, texture and my life in South Africa.
