Artist in Residence Program Opportunity

Posted by Maggie Hollins, Sunday, 14th September 2014 @ 2:25pm

  • TACTILE ARTS (formerly Territory Craft, located in Darwin) introduced an Artist in Residence program in the early 1980s.

“Located just 5 minutes from the centre of Darwin in the parklands of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, our Gallery and studios look out across the aquamarine waters of Fannie Bay to the Beagle Gulf and are often visited by goannas, frilled neck lizards and birds of prey (all friendly of course!). The aim of our Artist in Residence program is to support an artist or artisan at any skill level and at any stage of their career to develop their practice through research, exploration and experimentation. The Artist in Residence will have access to a dedicated studio space for up to 6 months and the use of available equipment to enable them to work on their craft. The Artist in Residence will be given use of our gallery space to hold a solo exhibition of new work created during the residency. There will be opportunities to deliver public workshops based on current practice. This is a studio residency. We do not provide living accommodation but maybe able to assist you to find. Tactile Arts grants $500 towards exhibition expenses and any workshop tutoring will be paid. Past Residencies have included artists working in a variety of fields such as textiles, painting, collage, glass, photography, print making, sculpture and ceramics.”

Contact Danielle Cullen, Exhibition Coordinator on (08)8981 6615 or exhibitions@tactilearts.org for further information.

  • CrossXpollinatioN 2014 - Love, Loss & What I Wore

Last year we had an “Oh Wow!” reaction to the theatre-lit exhibition in our enormous Civic Hall – a quirky mix of farmer’s armour, floating art garments, evocative quilts and more. This year our Civic Hall will again host a collection of exhibitions including works by Catherine O’Leary, Dijanne Cevaal and Ilka White, wearable art around the theme “Love, Loss & What I Wore” and a touching and beautiful installation. Other activities include: • A program of inventive workshops by great tutors. • “Love, Loss & What I Wore”, wearable art exhibition at Colac Otway Performing Arts Centre 28 June – 13 July 2014. • “Made with Love”, exhibition of textile and fibre works of excellence at Red Rock Regional Theatre & Gallery, 28 June – 13 July 2014 (10-5 weekends only). • Artist talks and networking suppers at Red Rock Regional Theatre & Gallery, 5 and 12 July. • WAM Wearable Art Market in the foyer of Colac Otway Performing Arts Centre 28 June 2014 • Plus loads more… Check for updates, more information or book workshops at www.copacc.com.au.
