The Victorian Feltmakers Inc is a voluntary organisation with over 200 members. These are feltmakers ranging from beginners to experienced. We meet to share the latest feltmaking techniques, keep up to date with happenings in the world of felt and wool fibre, and share and support the development of the feltmaking community.

The organisation provides a network of mutual support and encouragement for feltmakers through the exchange of ideas and information, meetings and publications.

Membership is available to feltmakers of all standards. Joining the Victorian Feltmakers Inc. provides you with:

  • A quarterly electronic magazine, Feltlines, containing information on workshops, techniques, events, meeting reports, samples and profiles. For those without Internet access, Feltlines is also available in printed form.

  • Access at a discounted rate to our comprehensive workshop program, which ranges from beginners' requirements through to advanced topics. Click here for the 2012 Workshop Program.

  • 6 fantastic friendly meetings per year:

    • each with guest speaker and/or demonstration/activity

    • "Show and Tell" of members' works

    • library of books and feltmaking equipment

    • up to 3 VFI member traders each meeting; as well as special days with guest traders

    •  fibre shop for all your feltmaking needs

  • 12 monthly Felting Frenzies - days of gathering with fellow feltmakers and working on your own projects, at your own rate.  Not a workshop, but the opportunity to learn from the more experienced - and from yourself.

  • A bi-annual retreat in regional Victoria. Bookings are now being taken for Camp Jungai, Thornton, as 2012 is a retreat year.  Details are available in the Autumn 2012 issue of Feltlines magazine.

  • A library of books, magazines and videos for members to borrow. Equipment, such as hat blocks and shoe lasts can also be borrowed by members.

  • The opportunity to exhibit your work as well as a mentoring program, with an emphasis on development of your art skills and proficiency in the craft of feltmaking. In August 2011, VFI members' work was showcased in "Felternative" at the Hawthorn Town Hall Gallery. If you are a member, you can see Feltlines #79 for full coverage.  A movie of the exhibition will be shown at the April meeting, to give you a nice reminder of how good it was.

  •  "Felternative" 2012 will take place at Chapel off Chapel Gallery. We will be calling for entries, so get working now!

A number of members are available for tutoring, professional advice and commissions. Most activities occur in Melbourne, though we do encourage the development of regional groups.
